Budgeting and Balancing
Some months are busier than others. You have parties and events coming out of your ears. Then, you look at the stores and find marked down prices of the goods you’ve always loved to have. If you have to buy anything, take advantage of great deals and offers. Also, it helps to sign up with sites that alert you whenever there’s a sale in a store near your area. This can control your urge to just shop and shop until one day, you realize that you have things you don’t really need. Clean out your closet and organize your things. There are actually pieces that you may have forgotten that you own. As long as you have the basics, everything else is secondary.
Technology also uses up a lot of your precious savings. Take time to check out the promos of your cellphone service provider. Some mobile service companies offer discounts on certain plans. Try subscribing to these come the right time to cut on your expenses. If technology fails, you can always use the regular phone to give your friends and family a call. The point is, you can keep in touch and still pay less for it.
If you’re planning to throw a party, you’ll spend a lot less if you time it before or after the three major meals of the day. Consider the schedules and eating habits of your friends on the guest list. Make sure you plan around meals if you don’t intend on offering a full-fledged meal. Host a brunch or afternoon tea party, for example. Want to serve alcohol on a budget? A couple of vodka bottles with good old fruit punch go a long, long way. You don’t need to splurge on decorations and expensive food to make the party great. Remember, people will remember the event itself rather than the things you’ve prepared for it.
On the other hand, if you’ve been invited to an event, you also need to think about the gift you may have to bring. You’d like to get your friends thoughtful presents, but at the same time, you also have to think about your finances. After the whole glitter and glamour wears off, some people realize that they actually don’t have what they want. When you shop for gifts, you may make mindless decisions on what to buy, and focus on handing out pretty, gift-wrapped boxes than what’s inside it. The perfect solution would be to make a list. Put some thought into the recipient and his or her interests. You can always give that person something they’ll surely love. Also, assign a specific price range. This way, you narrow down your gift choices. Plus, you’ll be forced to think of an alternative gift that might even lead to a new passion for that person. Just remember that whatever you’re giving, it may not be something that you have to purchase in the mall. Something that is well-thought and cost-free may even be the best kind of gift you’ll ever give.
